Did you know the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) considers the Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) to be an underutilized advanced geotechnical method in exploration?
In fact, the FHWA recommends using CPT testing, among other advanced geotechnical methods in exploration to “mitigate risks and improve reliability.” This is due to CPT testing’s unmatched data accuracy.
How much different can advanced methods such as CPT testing actually be? The FHWA states that “Up to 50 percent of major infrastructure projects suffer impacts to schedule or cost due to geotechnical issues.” Fifty percent!
These massive losses are why the FHWA established Advanced Geotechnical Methods in Exploration (A-GaME) A-GaME is an initiative to educate geotechnical exploration firms and departments of transportation (DOT) on the underutilized and more advanced methods of geotechnical exploration.
As the leading manufacturer of CPT testing equipment, training, and service, Vertek seeks to provide geotechnical firms and DOTs with the latest information related to A-GaME, to include resources for federal funding of CPT operations.
